How To Determine Quality

No matter how much you need, we offer the best firewood for sale around. Below are the measures our firewood supplier takes to determine the quality of the product we offer customers:

1. Heat Content/ BTU - The BTU, or heat content of a fire depends on several properties of the firewood; most notably the amount of resin, density of the wood and moisture content.

2. Resin Content – Resin is the sticky, glossy sap that remains on wood and bark after being cut from a tree. High resin content in firewood can lower the heat content available to burn.

3. Density of Wood - Different species of wood can vary in density. Firewood with higher numbers of resin tend to be less dense. The higher the density, the higher the heat content.

4. Moisture Content - Firewood should be between 15 and 20% moisture to burn properly. Burning wood with a high moisture content will waste much of its available energy, sending it directly into the atmosphere without putting off much heat.

5. Seasoning –Seasoned firewood produces more heat because it has been given the time to thoroughly dry out. To get the maximum heat content in your firewood, it’s recommended that it air-dries for up to eight months after the first cut.

6. Storage - To get the most from your firewood, it’s important to split and stack the wood outside in a covered area. The stacked wood should be kept free of any plant life to increase circulation and help keep the wood as dry as possible.

Seasoned Firewood

To ensure a roaring fire that keeps up when temperatures drop low, rot-free seasoned firewood is essential. Seasoned wood is dried out, aged with care and perfectly prepared to feed the heat of a wood-burning fire. It is meant to be used in close proximity to the day it’s delivered to your property. This will ensure the cleanest flame with minimal smoke, a fire that is quick to ignite and an effortless and long-lasting burn cycle.

As the fall and winter months begin to approach, we encourage all of our customers to look into the seasoned firewood they may need for their property. Putting in an order, or inquiring about a certain amount of seasoned firewood early in the season allows you to be one of the first clients to receive their order, that way once the temperatures begin to drop, you can create a comfortable and cozy environment within your home.

At Wooden Nickels, we will provide you with every cut of seasoned firewood you need for immediate warmth. Contact our firewood supplier today to discuss your seasoned wood options. Green Firewood

Green firewood comes with a higher moisture content and is often purchased prior to the time it’s expected to be used. From there it can be easily dried out by homeowners while in storage. Without being seasoned properly, green wood will carry moisture, offering a smokier fire that can quickly turn dull.

Our firewood supplier recommends green firewood as the best option for customers that are ordering well in advance and is often provided at an even more affordable price than seasoned cords. Contact Wooden Nickels today to learn more about green firewood and to ensure a full stock on your property when it’s finally needed.
